About Our Mission

Our History

Natalie Ortiz is the visionary Founder of Helping Hands for Children Foundation, a nonprofit program dedicated to providing safety, healing, and second chances for boys ages 7–17. Driven by compassion and a deep belief that every child deserves a future, Natalie has built Helping Hands from the ground up — transforming a mission into a movement that continues to grow across Texas.

Her leadership is rooted in resilience, faith, and a relentless commitment to children who have faced trauma, instability, and hardship. Natalie's work is guided by one core belief: no child is ever too broken to be rebuilt, and no story is too dark to be rewritten.

Natalie’s Mission

Natalie’s mission is simple but powerful — to create safe, stable, and nurturing environments where children can heal, grow, and reclaim their futures. She leads with heart, strength, and unwavering determination, ensuring that every child who enters Helping Hands receives the care, structure, and support they deserve.

Her vision extends far beyond one facility. Natalie is actively expanding Helping Hands across Texas, working to reach more children in need and build a statewide network of trauma‑informed care.

Leadership & Achievements

Natalie's work reflects her dedication, leadership, and ability to turn challenges into opportunities:

  • Founded Helping Hands for Children Foundation, establishing a trauma-informed residential program for boys in crisis.
  • Grew the program across multiple Texas communities, including Duncanville and Willis, with future sites under development.
  • Built a strong, compassionate leadership team, including operations lead Josemel Herrera and program development leader Cheryl Reed.
  • Developed partnerships with valued supporters, including Alpha Heating & Cooling, Strand AE (led by President Tamara "Tami" Spicer), and Lennox.
  • Strengthened facility standards to ensure safe, stable, and healing environments for every child.
  • Worked closely with state agencies, city officials, and community partners to ensure full compliance with all applicable standards.
  • Created sustainable operational systems that allow Helping Hands to grow while maintaining high-quality care.
  • Launched workforce development pathways, including HVAC training opportunities through Alpha Heating & Cooling for youth of working age

A Leader Who Never Stops Fighting for Children

Natalie is known for her persistence, her heart, and her refusal to give up on any child. She advocates fiercely for youth who have been overlooked, misunderstood, or forgotten. Her leadership is hands‑on, compassionate, and deeply personal — she shows up every day ready to fight for the children who depend on her.

Whether she is navigating regulations, expanding facilities, supporting her staff, or comforting a child who needs reassurance, Natalie leads with purpose and integrity. Her work is more than a job — it is a calling.

Looking Ahead

Natalie continues to push Helping Hands for Children toward a future of growth, impact, and statewide expansion. Her long‑term goals include:

  • Opening additional residential sites across Texas
  • Strengthening trauma‑informed programming
  • Expanding community partnerships and donor support
  • Creating more workforce development opportunities for youth
  • Building a sustainable model that can serve generations of children

Her vision is bold, but her determination is stronger.

A Message From Natalie

"Every child deserves a chance to feel safe, loved, and hopeful again. Helping Hands is more than a program — it’s a promise to every child who walks through our doors. A promise that we will fight for them, believe in them, and help them build a brighter future."
